Spin the wheel to pick at random

Type any list — student names, chores, lunch options, giveaway entries — one per line, and spin. The pointer lands on one segment after a randomised deceleration, choosing a winner with equal probability. Enable Remove winner after spin for fair multi-round draws: each spin eliminates the previous winner, so no one can be picked twice.

Popular uses

The wheel, colours and animation are rendered on an HTML5 canvas in your browser; your list is stored locally so it survives a refresh.

Frequently asked questions

Is the wheel really random, or does it favour some options?

Every option sits in a segment of the same size, so each one has the same chance. Each spin adds a random number of whole turns (five to eight) plus a random final angle, and the winner is whichever segment ends up under the pointer.

How many options can I put on the wheel?

There is no fixed limit, and the wheel redraws for every entry in your list. Once you pass about fourteen items the labels are drawn smaller, and on the wheel itself labels longer than sixteen characters are shortened with an ellipsis, though the winner is always announced in full.

What does Remove winner after spin do?

It deletes the winning entry from the list as soon as it is drawn, so multi-round draws never repeat a name. That is the setting to use for classroom selection or giveaways where each person should win at most once.

Is my list saved if I close the page?

Yes, the list is saved to your browser local storage as you type, so it is still there after a refresh. Clearing site data, or deleting the lines yourself, is what removes it; it is never uploaded.

Why does a spin take nearly four seconds?

The deceleration animation runs for about 3.9 seconds so the result feels drawn rather than announced. The winning segment is decided before the animation starts, and the wheel simply coasts to a stop on it.

Can I spin without a mouse, and what if there is only one option?

Press Space to spin the wheel from the keyboard, which is handy when the page is projected. You need at least two entries before it will spin, otherwise it asks you to add more options.
