Why seating plans matter
Teachers reseat classes for behaviour management, collaboration pairing, and fairness — but doing it by hand eats prep time. A generator with two modes covers most needs: random (mix cliques, freshen the room) and alphabetical (quick attendance mapping, substitute-friendly).
Using the chart
- Front of class is the top row — put chatty students or those needing support closer to the board by editing the list order before shuffling (the generator preserves list order when filling).
- Too many students for the grid? The chart fills row by row and any extra names are cut off — increase rows or columns so everyone gets a seat.
- Too few? Empty cells show as blank seats.
- Print opens a clean, printer-friendly layout for your lesson plan binder.
Teacher workflow tip
Keep the master roster in your notes app; paste, shuffle, print each term. For seating charts with specific pairings (quiet student next to a helper), shuffle once, then drag names by hand in your head — or reorder the input list and re-shuffle until the pair lands.
