Why flatten JSON?

Databases and log systems often store nested JSON, but analysis tools (spreadsheets, BI, pandas json_normalize) want flat rows. Flattening converts {"user":{"address":{"city":"Shanghai"}}} into user.address.city = "Shanghai" — one line per leaf value.
