Reading the chart
The line shows the ECB's daily reference rate for the pair. The shaded area follows the rate path; the dashed line connects the first and last values. The min and max values are labelled. A falling line means the base currency is weakening against the quote.
Limits & caveats
- Reference (mid-market) rates — not what you'll get at a bank (spread applies).
- Weekends/holidays have no quote; the chart connects trading days directly.
- ECB data goes back years — as long as you need for trend, not tick-level.
- Use the Currency Converter for today's live rate.
Time periods in practice
1M–3M shows momentum (is the currency strengthening?), 1Y smooths noise, 3Y–5Y shows structural trends — USD/CNY in the last 5 years is a nice example of a sustained move.
